NYM Winter High School Retreat – Feb 20-22

In the words of Miriam, one of our NYM High School Tender Team…In the midst of busy school and extracurricular lives it can be difficult to remember to give oneself grace, rest, and solace. Come join us at Milwaukee Quaker Meeting House for a weekend of self care and mental wellness from February 20th – 22nd. Together we will relax, play games, cook, indulge and support community, be in nature, and learning how to thaw our minds and hearts in this frozen time of year.We welcome you to join in ournext retreat…

NYM Winter High School Retreat ~ The Freeze/Thaw Cycles of Mental Wellness

Friday, February 20th 7:00PM to Sunday February 22, 12:00 noon
Milwaukee Friends Meetinghouse 
4223 N. Gordon Place, Milwaukee, WI 53212

Supper provided by the Milwaukee Meeting. 

Once everyone arrives that evening we will discuss the weekend flow.   

Things to bring:  Bring a favorite comfort item or practice you do to share with us when we swap stories about how we comfort and calm ourselves through our mental wellness challenges.  A non-perishable item to share with a local food bank. Games; books; handicraft items; warm sleeping bag (extra blankets); sleeping pad and pillow; layers for clothes; good hiking/walking shoes; warm outerwear layers (coat;hat;mittens;scarf); flashlights; instruments (if you like); particular dietary foods; snacks to share; toiletries and any medicines.

PERMISSION FORM and payment: 

Financial support available. Additional contributions welcome, and will be added to the financial assistance fund.  We don’t want costs to be a barrier to attending. If you might appreciate financial assistance for registration fees or travel, please ask. Part-time attendance accepted, but part-time participants need to contact Cynthia in advance and pay full registration fees.

Potential Activities:

  • Creating tea light candles/rocks in holders
  • Crocheting and other hand crafts
  • Playing board games
  • Storytelling and song singing
  • Art projects
  • Book or journal in a cozy corner to regenerate yourself
  • Night Hike
  • Linda Hall will do some interactive programming with us to explore our mental wellness practices
  • Service Project:  Potentially helping at a food bank or a project for the meetinghouse (*bring one non-perishable food to gift)

Carpooling:  From Anne LaWall-Shane who is our volunteer NYM HS rideshare coordinator: If you are in need of rides for your youth either one or both ways, or you or someone you know is willing to drive one or both ways, please feel free to reach out to me. Hoping we can get everybody there that wants to be .
